For the 4th of July, my favorite holiday, we went to visit some friends in Highland County up near the WVA state line. It is beautiful were they live and we had a great time. Since Christian goes to bed at 8 we put up a small display of fireworks in the back yard and played a lot of cards.
Our sitter is on vacation this week so I took a few extra days off to spend with Christian and I am so glad I did. Several big things happened this week, Christian can officially sit up. He graduated out of his baby tub in to the "big tub" where he loves to kick his feet and splash the water. He has moved in to the next diaper size, 3. And he also tried his first meat, chicken, which he liked.
His seven month birthday was today. I can't believe how fast it has gone.

New Discoveries

We have been trying solids with Christian for a while with little success until today. This evening he tried sweet potatoes and he seemed to like them. Isn't he adorable!
He has also discovered how to throw things and that if he does this Mommy or Daddy will pick them up. He thinks this is a fun new game! I am sure we will be playing a lot of it in the weeks and months to come.

Nature - Too Close for Comfort
We had two close encounters with nature this past week. Last Wednesday Troy saw a mouse in our basement, so we set a live trap for him and went to bed. When we got up in Thursday morning, much to my relief, we had caught him. We took Christian out and he watched as we released the mouse back in the the field behind us.
Then Friday night we were sitting out on the patio after Christian went to bed and Mindy got sprayed by a skunk again! We washed he with Scope and a Skunk treatment but she still stinks! Last time a year later you could still smell her when it rained. I hope it doesn't last that long this time!

A Lot Going On
So much has happened since my last post.
Christian was baptised on April 18th. One of the ladies I work with came and took photos, you can see them at the link below:

He slept right through the whole thing, water and all. After the service everyone came back to our home for a luncheon to celebrate.
Christian and I took another road trip, this time to OH to see his cousins. We had a great time. I was the first time I have seen him express boredom although I quite sure it won't be the last. He has officially decided he no longer likes his car seat.
Christian is working diligently on rolling over and has managed to do it once so far. He is also working on sitting up although I think it will be a while before he masters this one.
We bought a jogging stroller on Craig's list this weekend and so far I think it is one of our better investments. I love it because it rolls over everything, making it very convenient to take to the park or where ever.
Since I am talking about the park, there is something else I am very excited about right now. This being my first mother's day, I have made it easy for Troy, I bought my own mother's day gift. I booked a weekend get-a-way for Memorial day weekend at Douthat State Park. I wanted to go for Mother's day but they were booked. We have a two bedroom cabin with a full kitchen and bathroom. I am so excited. I hope we get great weather. They have a lake and I am hoping to take Christian swimming.
The Tuesday after we get back a friend and I signed our sons up for swimming lessons at the YMCA. It is four nights a week for two weeks. The class only lasts half an hour. I am very excited about it.
Christian is growing so fast I can hardly believe that he will be five months this Friday!! He is starting to grow out of his 3-6 month clothes already.

Road Trip
We went to Richmond this weekend and met up with our friends Chris, Keri and Rebecca, who live there. On a whim we decided to go to shopping at the outlets in Williamsburg. So we ran to Target and grabbed some undies and a toothbrush and headed to Williamsburg. After we went shopping we drove back to Richmond and found a hotel. I wasn't sure how Christian would do in a hotel, but he fell asleep in his car seat and slept there until 4 am, which is pretty good for him. All in all I think everyone had a great time.
Dr Follow Up/Wellness
We went for the hospital follow up on 4/5, Christian was much better. We were supposed to have his four month wellness appointment on 4/7 but since he was so much better our doctor went ahead and did his wellness appointment the same day.
He weighted 13 lbs 2 oz and was 23.5 inches. He also had all his vaccines. He was a trooper!

Christian's 1st Cold
Christian got his first cold this week. We went to the pediatrician on Tuesday but he seemed more concerned about the eczema on his arms than the cold. Tuesday night he spiked a 102.5 degree fever so we took him back on Wednesday. The doctor found a heart murmur so they took a chest x-ray and did a blood culture. These tests revealed he also has pneumonia.
Since the only pediatric cardiologist in Lynchburg was at a conference in Charlottesville, we were referred to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he was admitted and stayed Wednesday night. Thursday morning they did an EKG, ultrasound and more x-rays of his heart. These tests showed he has a small hole in one of the walls of his heart. The cardiologist said of all the heart defects this one is the most common and will close on its own and will not have any long term affects. He was allowed to go home Thursday afternoon but we have go back for a follow-up in four months and will continue to follow-up until it has closed.
He was put on antibiotics for the pneumonia and should be fine in a few days to a week, we go back on Monday to follow up for that.
All in all it was a lot of panic and worry over what ultimately turned out to be nothing major.
